REDLINE GUIDE

What to send for a useful takeoff

A short intake checklist that prevents avoidable questions and revision mistakes.

Start with the issued PDF

Send the actual plan file, not a screenshot of a screen. Identify the issue date and sheet numbers. Keep the original filename so the drawing can be traced to the source.

Include the legend and scope

A device symbol can mean different things across projects. Include the legend, relevant schedule, specifications and notes that identify the trade boundary. State whether you need new work, demolition, existing-to-remain quantities or a comparison.

Name the deadline precisely

Give the date, time and time zone for your handoff. If your bid closes at 2 PM, tell us when your estimator actually needs the counts. Scope and available capacity are reviewed before a delivery commitment.

Keep addenda together

Send every relevant addendum and identify which sheets they replace. If you are unsure whether the set is current, resolve that with the issuer before relying on a finished estimate.
